20GB PS3 At 200 Inches With Thousand Dollar Cable

Holy snot! Just take a look at Japanese gadget critic Yoshio Ohara's set-up. So sweet that a 20GB PS3 was hauled over to his house to see how it would look connected with a US $1,200 HDMI cable and projected on a 200-inch theater screen. Once hooked up, things like reading the print on the initial screens were difficult — Most likely, due to the fact the game wasn't designed for 200 inches. That aside, playing Ridger Racer 7 was compared to riding a theme park ride. Can you imagine?

PlayStation 3 Has Worst Week Ever

Sony just can’t catch a break. Recent Japanese sales data on the PlayStation 3 indicate that the expensive console has had its worst week since its launch in Japan. In the week ending January 14th, Sony sold a paltry 25,531 units.
Overall, the console market has slowed. The Wii turned in its second worst week with sales of 93,708. The Xbox 360 sold a meager 9,035 units. The source of the sales data is Media Create, Co., a Japanese console gaming research company.
The big news is that while Sony claims to have shipped a large amount of consoles the sales reported by retailers is fairly low, indicating that once well publicized shortage is being replaced apathy on the part of consumers.
PlayStation 3 games are slow to sell also. The highest ranking game “Resistance: Fall of Man” came in at #40 on the list of top selling games.
Whether the generally slow sales of consoles in Japan represents market glut, lack of interest or something else entirely remains to be seen. However, Sony may be in for a tough year as it looked for sales of the PlayStation 3 to revive slumping profits.

Retail Radar: Saints Row poppin' caps on PS3

Conventional wisdom says one of the keys to the next-generation system wars is game exclusivity. While Microsoft has locked up several games as Xbox 360 exclusives--the next edition of Splinter Cell, the upcoming BioShock, and million-shipper Dead Rising to name a few--Sony has reportedly let some exclusives slip through its fingers.
If a product listing on retailers EBGames.com and GameStop.com are any indication, at least one Xbox 360 exclusive is jumping ship for Microsoft's chief rival.
After THQ said it had delayed an unannounced PS3 game yesterday, GameSpot user SporkFireXPS pointed out that the two stores both have a listing for a PlayStation 3 edition of Saints Row, the gang warfare action game from THQ. He wasn't the only one who speculated on that being the game in question, as Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson told investors he believed the mystery game to be a PS3 version of Saints Row.
No details on the PS3 version are listed, except for a ship date of May 15. Saints Row was released on the Xbox 360 in late August, and THQ never announced that the game was PS3 bound.
THQ had not responded to requests for comment as of press time.

Yankee Captain Remains Cover Boy

Seven-time All-Star and 2006 AL MVP runner-up Derek Jeter is returning for a second year as 2K Sports' baseball cover athlete and spokesperson. Major League Baseball 2K7 ships prior to the new baseball season in "late winter" on Xbox, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and PSP. "We strive with every 2K Sports product to bring the most entertaining and realistic sports experience possible. With Major League Baseball 2K7 we listened to our fans, redesigning the game by strengthening the core gameplay and incorporating new, innovative features," said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. "When Major League Baseball 2K7 is released later this winter, fans will experience the most authentic and exciting MLB video game experience on any platform." "It is a real privilege to represent the premier MLB title in the video game industry," Derek Jeter said. "Just as I am always striving to improve my game, 2K Sports is constantly improving theirs, and this dedication has made Major League Baseball 2K7 the best MLB video game ever." Jeter was signed to a two-year contract last year, so his return on 2K's cover came as no surprise. It's unknown if Jeter will be retained for future years to become the face of the MLB 2K franchise.
